Civil Engineering

Head Of Department: DR. ADAN MATTI

The Department of Civil Engineering was established in 1996. The four year course of studies leads to a B. Tech. degree recognized by the Council for Higher Education in Israel.

The purpose of the study program is to teach the students the basic knowledge in civil engineering including structural design and construction management, basic understanding of all the spheres of civil engineering, ability to integrate analysis and design together with theory and practical applications,as well as self-study skills. These are the tools that allow our graduates to become civil engineers that find their place in the wide variety of employment opportunities that are available in structural  design and construction, both in the private sector and in the public sector including governmental entities, local municipal authorities, military needs etc. and/or to continue their  graduate studies.

The faculty  members at the Department carry out academic research, combine research with applied engineering activities or bring to the Department their rich experience gained from large-scale and high importance projects in the field of civil engineering field.

The faculty members are involved in research in the following topics: treinforced concrete structures, structural response to earthquakes, structural control, structural stability, static and dynamic behavior of structural components made of advanced materials, studying characteristics of construction materials, construction management, and engineering education.

The Faculty of the Department of Civil Engineering

The senior members of the department's faculty deal with research in various fields and some of them combine their research activities with applicational engineering activity. Some of the faculty member have broad experience in planning, managing and carrying out large and special projects in the construction industry.
The research and teaching activities of the faculty members cover many subjects, including:

  • Concrete structures
  • Earthquake-resistant buildings
  • Analytic methods of structures, under static and dynamic conditions
  • Planning buildings
  • Stability and collapse
  • Buildings made of composite materials
  • Failure analysis
  • Strengthening and rehabilitating buildings
  • Soil engineering and foundation
  • Computational mechanics
  • Construction management
  • Environmental engineering
  • Green construction
  • Road planning
  • Teaching engineering sciences
