The department trains mechanical engineers with a specialization in Mechatronics and Robotics. The system-wide outlook that characterizes the mechanical and mechatronics engineer allows the department's graduates to enter industry as developmental engineers and aids them in advancing to positions of project management and other managerial positions in industry.
The final project constitutes the highlight of the department, and its purpose is to apply the material studied - from the idea-formation stage and up to the development of a working system. The broad knowledge in mechatronics that was acquired by the students before the start of the project, and the planning process that was learned in the framework of the course, enable breaking through traditional thought processes and the proposal of unique solutions that take advantage of the great potential that is found in the integration of the various fields of mechatronics.
The knowledge of mechatronics is acquired in addition to the specialization in mechanical engineering and enables employment as both a mechanical engineer and as mechatronics engineer.

The Faculty

The faculty of the department is made up of well-known lecturers in the field of mechanical engineering and mechatronics, who also deal in research in the fields of mechanical engineering and robotics. The research subject being dealt with by faculty members are: theoretical robotics, medical robotics, micro-robotics, global movement planning and that which is dependent on three-dimensional sensory systems, interaction between implants and soft tissues, biomechanics of joints in the human body, optimization of human body movements, bio-medical currents, currents in implants and in the cardio-vascular system, computational systems for coupling structure and current, wave dynamics in elastic pipes, road safety, transportation engineering, vehicular dynamics, road accident investigation, vehicular reliability engineering, reliability analysis of battery packs, energy-use profile of various vehicles, the influence of high speed on road accidents, teaching road safety, influence of environmental and educational data on road safety, development of the robotics fields in the educational system, high-resolution (tens of picoteslas) electro-magnetic sensor of magnetic fields at low frequency and low electricity use. In atomic magnetometrics: optical sensor for measuring magnetic fields in a resolution of picoteslas. Solar panels: modelling and optimization of solar panels. A method of modelling and computing magnetic fields of three-dimensional spatial currents; energy collection using thermoelectric generators, collection of wasted heat, thermal management and active cooling of electronic instruments using a thermo-electric cooling system; high efficiency LED lamps for household lighting and street lighting and energy collection with piezoelectric instruments.
