The High Voltage (HV) Laboratory of Power Networks and Systems is designed for teaching and researches in the field of the HV transmission, distribution and power supply systems of different purposes. The main directions of the researches are the various aspects of the electric power quality (EPQ) such as the influence of certain types of voltage distortions on different types of electrical equipment, the economic damage caused by the reduction of the EPQ in power networks, the power meter measurement errors in power networks with different types of current harmonic sources, the determination of additional losses in power transformers because of the current harmonic levels, frequency response of measuring current and voltage transformers, methods and means of improving the EPQ , as well as the problem of reliable registration of the regime parameters as random processes in electrical power networks. The last mentioned study is a part of the problem in the field of Smart grid where an accurate and automatic fault location in medium voltage electrical power networks is required.
