Biology and research is a big part of me and one of my greatest passions is microbiology, especially bacteria, which are so intriguing.

One of my passions is to face complex questions and try and resolve them up to a level in which the answer is clear, coherent and simplified. Microbiology research in general, and pathogen research in particular, still holds a great deal of unanswered questions; therefore it challenges me to further investigate the unknown fields and to try and form the bigger picture – one answer at a time.

The gut microbiome and behavior are two topics which I find very interesting, and I believe they are strongly interrelated. I have combined them into my doctoral research theme.
I am interested in unravelling the etiology of psychiatric illnesses focusing on investigating the involvement of the gut microbiome in these disorders. Deep understanding of the interaction between native and transient gut microbiota with the endocrinological, immunological, and neurological systems of the body will shed light on many influences of gut microbiome on affective disorders. This knowledge will empower clinicians and provide new tools to improve patients' health and well-being.

I'm working with plasmids and I like it mostly because it involves me into molecular biology and bioinformatics at once. To work on sequenced molecules is like to solve a puzzle, and I love puzzles!

As an ecology enthusiast, I was always intrigued by the interaction between man and environment, and the impact of human footprint on world ecology (and vice versa) in the macro level. Consequently, as a microbiologist, I am fascinated by the concept of "One Health" and the ever growing understanding of mutual influence between human, animals and environment.
