Cyanobacterial flocculants for rehabilitation of degraded soils

Land Degradation is a problem of global dimensions. According to some estimates, approximately ~40% of the world’s agricultural land is seriously degraded. Among the worst affected regions are Central America, where 75% of land is infertile, Africa, where a fifth of soil is degraded, and Asia, where 11% is unsuitable for farming. The loss of arable land has been caused by a number of factors, most of which are tied to human development. The primary causes are deforestation, overexploitation for fuelwood, overgrazing, agricultural activities and industrialization.
