Data science is an interdisciplinary scientific field. Today almost any scientific field has a subcategory of data science. The main objective of data science is to extract knowledge and wisdom from data and information by using different data mining applications and techniques. In this seminar, we will describe the basic workflow to analysis databases namely the knowledge discovery workflow. The knowledge discovery workflow consists of the following steps (1) Downloading and obtaining the data; (2) Cleaning the data; (3) Variable selection; (4) Data analysis; and (5) Evaluation. In each step, we will introduce different applications from various scientific fields, including photovoltaic solar cells, drug design, chemistry and crowdfunding.
Abraham (Avi) Yosipof is the head of the Information Systems program (BSc), and the Dean of the faculty of Information Systems and Computer Science at the College of Law and Business, Ramat-Gan, Israel. He obtained his Ph.D. in the field of Chemoinformatics (2015) focusing on the development of optimization tools and predictive models, at the University of Bar-Ilan, Israel. His research focuses on informatics and optimization, specializing in data mining and machine learning algorithms in the field of Chemoinformatics, drug design, material-informatics, and finance. His research paper “RANdom SAmple Consensus (RANSAC) algorithm for material-informatics: application to photovoltaic solar cells” was nominated by Springer Nature’s Editors-in-Chief as groundbreaking scientific findings that can change the world for 2018. In 2019, he won the DogAge deep learning challenge held in cooperation with the International Conference on Artificial Neural Networks, ICANN 2019.
