Arabic Language and Literature
Dr. Hilla Peled-Shapira is a researcher of modern Arabic literature. She explores Iraqi literature of the mid-twentieth century with special focus on exiled Communist intellectuals.
She is the author of The Prose Works of Gha’ib Tu’ma Farman – The City and the Beast (2018), published by Lexington Books, and has published peer-reviewed articles in the Journal of Arabic Literature, Journal of Semitic Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, Die Welt des Islams, Oriente Moderno, The Levantine Review and Kurdish Studies. She has also contributed a chapter to the book State and Society in Iraq: Citizenship under Occupation, Dictatorship and Democratisation (I.B Tauris, 2017).
