About

Geographically located between East and West, the Middle East has long been one of the world’s most fascinating regions. It has attracted diverse populations for a variety of reasons, including access to holy places, pilgrimages, tourism or commerce. All these have made the region multi-cultural, multi-religious and multi-ethnic. The diverse demographic composition of the region’s population have naturally created different forms of political, social, economic and cultural structures that have shaped its instability and infighting.

The complexity of the area requires decision-makers in political and security establishments to make crucial decisions that affect Israel and region, emphasizing the need for reliable and up-to-date sources of knowledge that will serve them in formulating innovative solutions in light of the ever-changing circumstances.

Students specializing in Middle Eastern Studies are a potential base equipped with the appropriate skills to help policymakers make decisions based on in-depth information and appropriate research methods.

The Department of Middle Eastern Studies and Political Science at Ariel University has created a course of study based on the theoretical and practical knowledge that connects the different but complementary academic worlds – the Middle East, political science and Arabic.

This unique, specialized course is designed to train students for research, analysis and writing directed to the unique needs of policy design in the areas of security, foreign policy, economics, development and governance. Within the framework of this major, the Middle East’s core studies will be integrated into the decision-making processes, public diplomacy, foreign policy and security policy. Students are trained to assess situations and intelligence, to write “white papers” and policies in a variety of areas, to think strategically and to formulate evaluations for the future.

The course enables students to acquire new theoretical and practical tools to help them to integrate into the job market related to security, economics and diplomacy. They acquire practical experience throughout the course in special simulation rooms and a cutting-edge cyber simulation facility.
